The Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is a museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank, who hid from Nazi persecution with her family and four other people in hidden rooms at the rear of the building. For more than two years, Anne Frank lived secretively with the other people in hiding in the back part of her father's office building at the Prinsengracht.
Since 1960, the Anne Frank House has been a museum. The Secret Annex — known in Dutch as the Achterhuis — has been preserved in its authentic state. Not only is the house a timeless tribute to Anne, her family, and fellow hiders, but it is a monument to all of those who suffered the perils of the Nazi regime. As well as the preservation of the hiding place and an exhibition on the life and times of Anne Frank, the museum acts as an exhibition space to highlight all forms of persecution and discrimination. Anne's original diary is on display in the museum along with some of her other notebooks.
